Instructor

As an instructor Paul Henry has been teaching guitar since the age of 15. Many of his students have gone on to become professional teachers and performers in all styles of guitar performance. His students, ranging from age five to adult have won prizes in many local, national and international competitions. He has conducted master classes at many colleges and universities throughout the United States and has been an instructor at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago and at Roosevelt College Conservatory of Performing Arts and currently is on the faculty of Concordia University Chicago and the Metropolis School of Performing Arts in Arlington Heights in Illinois.

In his teaching, Paul Henry prioritizes the classical technique, alongside other essential guitar playing skills, though teaches and enjoys various musical styles for guitar. Students range from complete beginners to doctorate level students and concert performers of all ages. Lessons are usually scheduled once a week for 1-hour to ensure good playing habits, though students may prefer two 30-minute lessons a week to address mid-week questions and maintain motivation. Advanced students may sometimes prefer short-term or infrequent lessons when tackling specific roadblocks or preparing for a performance.

Musical Influences

Early instructors include Oscar Ghiglia, Clare Callahan and Eduard Flower who were avid disciples of Andres Segovia and his technique, which stressed rich color and varied articulation.
